South Nation Conservation issues Flood Outlook Statement

South Nation Conservation says there could be localized flooding along the St. Lawrence River over the next few weeks.

SNC has issued a flood outlook statement for areas along the river within its jurisdiction.

They say persistent spring precipitation has led to rising water levels and while widespread flooding is not anticipated at this time, above-average water levels are expected to continue for several weeks.

That could lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas along the shoreline.

Residents in areas including Maitland, Johnstown and Cardinal are urged to exercise caution near rivers and shorelines and keep children away from fast-moving or high water areas.

Those living in the area should also check sump pumps and drainage systems and clear culverts and downspouts of debris.

The flood outlook statement remains in effect until 5 p.m. on May 26 or until updated.
