Throughout the long weekend, police say they were focused on behaviours that continue to contribute to serious and fatal collisions, including impaired driving, inattentive driving, speeding and improper use of or failure to wear seatbelts.

Between Friday and Monday, over 4,900 charges were laid for speeding while 506 were handed out for improper seatbelt use.

Another 174 drivers were charged with impaired while 108 were penalized for distracted driving.
