Researchers say a low-scale tornado swept through part of Kemptville.
The Northern Tornadoes Project, based out of Western University, says an EF0 tornado touched down north of Kemptville on Sunday, Aug. 2.
The organization confirmed its findings on Saturday. No injuries were reported.
Researchers say it had a maximum wind speed of 115 km/h and was over a short, narrow path in the Ferguson Forest. It started at 3:45 p.m., according to a radar estimate and it was over land.
NTP researchers completed a ground and drone survey last Thursday, documenting the reported damage and some additional tree damage.
Researchers say it had a track length of 1.18 kilometres and maximum path width of 80 metres.
NTP Director Dave Sills tells the Vista Radio Newsroom that there are certain this they look for when determining a tornado.
“What we’re looking for in the damage is a long narrow path. With a tornado you’ve got wind that’s coming towards the bottom of the storm and then up into the storm in the area of the tornado so that tends to focus the damage.”
NTP reported tornadoes in Woodstock and Lindsay, Ont. over the weekend, increasing the total number of tornadoes in Canada this year to 90, including 11 in Ontario.
