Warmer temperatures arriving but winter not gone just yet

The stage is set and an epic battle between winter and spring is about to be the main event.

Meteorological Spring officially arrived on Sunday and Environment Canada Senior Climatologist David Phillips says it’s bringing with it some warmer than normal temperatures including double digits forecasted for this weekend which is around 10 degrees above average.

Phillips says, however, that the cold hasn’t gone too far away and we typically see around 50 centimetres of snow in March and early April, which works out to around 12 days of the white stuff.

There is good news though, Phillips tells Moose FM that the snow that does fall wont be on the ground long.

“When winter comes back it usually lasts one or two days, it’s a short time and it’s not as intensely cold as it is in January.”

The forecast is calling for a high of 10 degrees this Saturday and eight degrees on Sunday.
