Police: Driver charged after caught traveling 100 kilometres over the speed limit

Police say excessive speed continues to be one of the leading factors in serious and fatal collisions on area roads.

Russell County OPP say they stopped the driver of a vehicle just after 1 a.m. Saturday that was travelling 211 km/h in a posted 110 km/h zone.

The driver was charged with stunt driving under the highway traffic act, the vehicle was impounded for 14 days and a 30-day license suspension was implemented.

The accused will appear in court at a later date.

Police say there’s no excuse for driving at nearly twice the posted speed limit with speeding putting everyone at risk.

Drivers are being asked to slow down, drive responsibly, and help keep the roads safe.
