A project aiming to engage seniors as volunteers in their communities is getting a funding boost.

The Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group has announced its list of Learning and Engagement Accelerator Fund recipients and among them is the Kemptville-based seniors initiative.

Officials say the local project is about recruiting seniors to be volunteers and mentors to other volunteers with clients and their families who are in need in our community.

They add their is an intensive six week training program and volunteers are paired with senior volunteers who have been volunteering for awhile to provide the new volunteers with shadowing and support.

The selected projects receive grants ranging from $10,000 to $50,000.
