St. James Anglican Church in Maitland celebrating 200th anniversary

A Maitland church is celebrating its 200th anniversary this weekend.

St. James Anglican Church is marking the milestone and organizers say events will bring together acclaimed Canadian musicians, Reverend William G. Cliff, Bishop of the Diocese of Ontario, dignitaries, parishioners, former members, friends and the wider community.

The festivities begin on Saturday at 7 p.m. with an evening of music featuring organist, conductor, composer and educator Matthew Larkin and Juno award-winning soprano Kathleen Radke.

Celebrations continue on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. with St. James’ 200th anniversary worship service followed by a luncheon at the Maitland Education and Recreation Centre at noon.

Organizers say the weekend is the centrepiece of a year-long series of events commemorating the church’s bicentennial.
