Kemptville ready to celebrate Canada Day

Get ready, Kemptville, for a big Canada Day bash.

Activities are taking place in the Riverside Park area from early morning and into the night on Saturday, when our country celebrates its 156th birthday.

Celebrations start with a breakfast at the Kemptville Legion at 8 a.m. An opening ceremony takes place at 10:30 a.m. in front of the Legion building.

Then, there’s a full lineup of family activities and music at the park. A Paws for Fun Agility demonstration at 11:45 a.m. and a Spring Action Trampoline display at 1 p.m. are among the highlights.

North Grenville fire ban lifted, but fireworks discouraged

North Grenville has lifted its fire ban, but the fire chief is asking residents not to use personal fireworks this Canada Day.

The ban was lifted early Thursday. It means residents can apply for permits for open-air burning again.

However, Chief John Okum says backyard fireworks are not safe and a better option is to see an official fireworks show.

“Here in North Grenville, fire officials are recommending that backyard fireworks not be used,” he says. “We highly recommend residents travel to our community fireworks display and enjoy the fireworks there.”

The North Grenville Canada Day celebration at Riverside Park will end with a fireworks display at 10 p.m.
