Mayor Peckford talks 2023 ParticipACTION “Canada’s Most Active Community” challenge

Nearly halfway through this year’s ParticipACTION “Canada’s Most Active Community” competition, Mayor Nancy Peckford says North Grenville is doing very well.

“We’ve been holding steady at number one nationally, which is an amazing accomplishment for North Grenville,” Peckford says, “We occasionally have dropped back to number two, so if you check the app or the website, you’ll sometimes see that North Grenville is in the number two national spot, but within a few hours, it usually rectifies itself and we go back to number one.”

The contest sees residents logging all their time exercising throughout the month of June, with the community that spends the most time working out winning $100,000 in funding.

In 2021, North Grenville won the national title, and last year, it came in second place nationally and was crowned “Ontario’s Most Active Community.”

Peckford says council is considering several different projects if the municipality wins any prize money this year, including an expansion to the arena.

“We know we don’t have an indoor walking track, and that there’s a lot of need in the community for people to stay active, particularly in the winter months,” she says. “So, I think we’ll turn our eye to that and see where we can make a significant difference.”

The competition runs until June 30th. You can download the ParticipACTION app today to start logging your physical activity.
