Municipality applying for $10 million to widen 43

The Municipality of North Grenville is submitting an application for infrastructure funding. If successful, the dollars will go towards widening County Road 43.

The plan is to turn 43, from Somerville to the 416, into a four-lane roadway. The estimated cost of the project is $27 million.

Mayor Nancy Peckford says the municipality and United Counties of Leeds and Grenville are working very closely with Minister Steve Clark’s office right now to submit an application to the province’s newly announced Infrastructure Fund for Rural and Northern Communities.

The application, for up to $10 million, will be submitted in the next week or so.

Peckford says in discussion with Minister Clark, it’s become obvious that this is the municipality’s best chance at getting funding. She says the municipality is working daily on the application and coordinating with the county.

Peckford says she expects to hear by June whether the application was successful.
