Michael Barrett sworn in as MP

Michael Barrett was sworn in as the Member of Parliament for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes.

The ceremony was held on Monday. He says since his election in December he has been visiting with stakeholders, small businesses, charities and community members.

“Assessing what their needs are and really seeing what kind of course we need to chart over 2019 so I can best support the community.”

Barrett adds on Parliament Hill he has recently been appointed to the Justice Committee and as the Deputy Shadow Critic for small business and export promotion.

“I think that that Shadow Critic appointment gives me a great opportunity to work hard for the small businesses in our riding and to have some standing to really move the ball down the field on their behalf.”

Barrett says he thinks with an election coming up in the fall and only a few months left in the sitting calendar for Parliament, it is a bit limiting on what they’ll be able to accomplish legislatively.  But adds he is very excited to take the concerns and voices from the riding and share them with the Conservative caucus in Ottawa.

Barrett says he is everyone’s Member of Parliament and his door is open.
