Local hockey player lands full ride to Syracuse University

It pays to play. Local hockey player Amelia Van Vliet has landed a full scholarship to Syracuse University. She is a grade 11 student at St. Michael Catholic High School and has been playing hockey since the age of four. Van Vliet, who plays goalie for the Toronto Jr. Aeros, has attracted the attention of 15 universities across the United States. She says she knew Syracuse was the right choice as soon as she met the coaches.

The scholarship covers everything, from tuition to living expenses. Van Vliet says there are many great programs to choose from at Syracuse.

Van Vliet also played for the Kemptville Storm and Nepean Wildcats. Her idol is Carey Price, goalie for the Montreal Canadiens.
