OPP reminding people to be safe on snowmobiles after a deadly year last year

The OPP says that the 2016-2017 snowmobile season was the deadliest since 2003-2004.

Grenville County OPP Officer Suzanne Runciman says the OPP is concerned with the numbers this past year.

The OPP says that when it comes to ice and open water, nine deaths is the worst on record. Runciman is reminding people to be careful around these dangers.

Safe Snowmobiling Week runs until January 28th and the OPP, along with the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs, are urging snowmobilers to leave all forms of risky behaviour behind when heading out.

The OFSC says you can visit the Go Safe link on their website to learn more about being safe on the trails.
