UCDSB Trustees tour schools

As part of Local Government week Trustees with the Upper Canada District School Board have been touring schools and speaking with children.

At the invitation of schools Trustees Bill MachPherson, Caroll Carkner, John McAllister and Donald Cram met with students and talked about their role in the education system. Some topics of discussion included setting of Board policies, budget management, team work and being a bridge between the public and school leaders or curriculum planners.

Students asked questions like; how often Trustees met, how they were elected and what their responsibilities were. Trustee Macpherson spoke with students at Maple Grove Public School and said he believes creating a greater understanding of local government among youth is important to democracy.
