North Grenville marks National Firefighter Memorial Day 2025

North Grenville Mayor Nancy Peckford says the municipality is honouring the courageous men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving their communities as fire fighters.

Sunday was National Firefighter Memorial Day 2025 and Peckford says in a statement that firefighters, many of whom are volunteers, are the backbone of our public safety network, working alongside other first responders to protect lives and property.

She says their courage, resilience, and dedication are called upon every day, and it is with heavy hearts that we remember those who lost their lives in the line of duty. They will never be forgotten.

Peckford adds that we also extend our deepest gratitude to the families of these fallen heroes. She says their heir loss is shared by the communities their loved ones served.

She says North Grenville is proud of its dedicated volunteer firefighters, whose commitment, often balancing work, family, and service, exemplifies heroism in action.

Last October, the North Grenville Fire Service dedicated a permanent memorial to three of their own; Firefighter James Ault (1936), Chief Tim Bond (2016), and Firefighter James Petersen (2019). Peckford says the ceremony unveiled plaques, a commemorative bench, and a tree along the multi-use pathway outside of the fire department, ensuring that their service and sacrifice will be remembered for generations to come.
