RVCA issues Flood Outlook Statement

A new Flood Outlook Statement from the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority (RVCA) is warning people of an early melt coming this week.

According to the statement, issued Monday morning, high temperatures for the next few days coupled with 20 to 30 millimetres of rainfall in the forecast are expected to cause a “widespread melt” throughout the region.

Staff members say this isn’t likely to cause any flooding on its own, because of “below normal” snow conditions for this time of year.

However, they add it will make the region more susceptible to flooding if there’s another storm soon.

If you live near a body of water or in a flood-prone area, staff members suggest you take some steps to protect your home.

That includes making sure your sump pump is working, having a backup pump and generator on standby, and securing anything that could float away in the event of a flood.

The statement is in effect until next Monday, March 4th.
