If you live along a waterway, now’s the time to start making sure your home is prepared for floods.
That’s a message from the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority (RVCA).
According to the organization, high water season is around the corner thanks to the unusually mild winter we’ve had this year.
Staff members say now is a good time to make sure your sump pump is working and to get a battery backup ready if you don’t already have one.
Other recommendations include looking up your municipality’s emergency plan for floods, bookmarking the RVCA website to check water levels in real time, and posting local emergency numbers somewhere in your home.
Staff members say they’re monitoring the area to get a sense of how likely flooding is in the region this spring, and they’ll have meetings with municipal leaders to discuss their findings over the coming weeks.
