Mayor Peckford talks “New Commons” housing development coming to Reuben Crescent

More than 100 new housing units are coming to a plot of land on Reuben Crescent.

North Grenville Mayor Nancy Peckford spoke with MyKemptvilleNow.com about the housing development, which is being built by a not-for-profit organization called “New Commons.”

“[The organization] understands that the municipality are very motivated to facilitate the establishment of affordable and attainable housing,” Peckford says, “so I think they identified that there was a good partner.”

This isn’t the organization’s first housing development, with others in Toronto, Surrey and Kingston, which appeals to Peckford.

“They’re seasoned, they’ve done this in other parts of the country,” she says. “They bring a lot of expertise to the table around multi-residential units.”

The organization’s goal is to build 109 housing units, split between two buildings. Peckford says it’s currently creating a site plan and working towards getting a building permit for the project.
