South Nation Conservation issues flood outlook statement ahead of weekend rain

The first days of May could see some flooding in parts of the region.

South Nation Conservation has issued a flood outlook statement, saying the weekend forecast is calling for up to 50 millimetres of rainfall locally.

With water levels in the region already high after a rainy April, that could lead to floods affecting low-lying areas and properties next to bodies of water.

If your home is in a flood prone area, you should make sure you’re prepared by ensuring your sump pump works, securing anything that could float away in a flood, and having a backup pump and generator ready if you lose power.

Residents are also being urged to be cautious around fast-flowing streams and other bodies of water, and to warn their kids not to play near them.

The statement is set to last until May 5th but could be ended early or extended if the situation changes.
