South Nation Conservation: keep an eye out for turtles

Warm weather means you need to be careful to avoid hitting turtles while driving.

That’s from South Nation Conservation, which has put out a warning urging residents to keep a close eye out for turtles over the coming weeks.

Staff members say at this time of year, turtles can often be found crossing roads looking for nesting places and food or using the warm pavement to sunbathe.

If you see a turtle that’s in danger, they say you should carefully pick it up and move it off the road in the direction it was going when it’s safe to do so.

You can learn more about local turtle species on South Nation Conservation’s website.
