Mayor Peckford talks winter storm impact, waste removal options

If you’re still cleaning your yard up after the ice storm earlier this month, Mayor Nancy Peckford says the municipality can help you out.

Peckford says there are two weeks during May when you’ll be able to leave yard waste curbside to be picked up.

“For the weeks of May 1st-5th and May 15th-19th,” she explains, “you can put out your curbside leaf and yard waste at the same time as you put out your garbage and recycling, and it will be picked up. Bag tags are $1 for our yard waste curbside collection.”

Peckford is also extending a thank-you to residents for helping each other during the immediate aftermath of the storm.

“It’s clear that North Grenville was indeed the eye of that storm,” she says, “and there were so many people without power, or who obviously were trying to prevent or manage flooding on their properties and downed trees, and in some cases, incidents of fire, and we are just extremely grateful for all the stories we’ve received of neighbours helping one another, during and after the storm.”

Tags for yard waste bags can be purchased at the Municipal Centre or at Jonsson’s Independent Grocer. You can visit the municipality’s website for a list of items that will and won’t be accepted.
