United Nations Association In Canada Searching For Youth Ambassadors

The United Nations Association in Canada is looking for youth in the community to join its ambassador program.

The Generation SDG program is recruiting youth ages 15-25 from Kemptville and other areas, to help them create a project they are passionate about surrounding issues that impact the community.

Community Liaison for the UN Association of Canada Sophia Mirzayee says it’s a great opportunity for youth to address relevant issues they’ve identified in their own backyard.

“You could be interested in infrastructure, gender equality, technology, food security,” Mirzayee said. “It really doesn’t matter what you’re interested in, there is something for everybody.”

The association is also seeking Mentors, between the ages of 18-35, who will act as role models to these ambassadors, and help guide them through the program.

Through the program, each youth will receive at least one mentor, 120 volunteer hours, a $200 grant, virtual training sessions, and a data plan if they live in a rural area.

Mirzayee says they’ll also have a chance to network with like minded youth, and have a chance to showcase their project.

“At the end of our program in March, we have this really exciting summit, where they can explain what they worked on, why it was important to them, and how they did it,” she said.

To learn more about becoming an ambassador, or mentor, you can check out the United Nations Association in Canada’s website.

Applicants can sign up until June 13.
