Late Night Blaze At New Rideau Restaurant Under Investigation

Officials are investigating the cause of a fire that took place at a restaurant just north of the Rideau River.

North Grenville firefighters were called to assist Ottawa Fire Services with the blaze last night after Ottawa received a 911 call from a neighbour who reported smoke and flames coming from the New Rideau Restaurant in Beckett’s Landing.

Firefighters were on scene at 10:55 p.m. and confirmed flames had extended through the roof and were threatening to spread to several large propane tanks nearby.

North Grenville Fire Chief John Okum says crews used tanker vehicles and large portable tanks to shuttle large volumes of water to the scene — and the fire was declared under control as of 1:01 a.m. this morning.

“The fire departments responded with various apparatuses and volunteer fire fighters, and the first truck on scene updated that there was a working structure fire, and heavy flames were visible through the roof when they arrived on scene,” Okum said.

Once under control, North Grenville Firefighters were relieved of their services.

An Ottawa Fire Services investigator is now investigating the origins and cause of the fire.
