Free musical instrument lending library launching in Brockville

Aaron Stevenson’s memory will live on through a new Musical Instrument Lending Library (M.I.L.L.). The Do It For Aaron (DIFA) Foundation is launching the initiative on Friday.

Stevenson was 16 when he was struck and killed by a truck while skateboarding outside of Brockville in 2013. His dad, William Stevenson, says Aaron was a drummer who loved music.

Aaron’s M.I.L.L. will work just like a regular library, but instead of books, people can borrow instruments.

The goal is to have it set up at Stingers after the New Year. Stevenson noted the free library will span a 75 kilometer radius, with satellite offices in smaller communities like Prescott, Kemptville, Smiths Falls and Westport.

He explained the M.I.L.L. will take things a step further and teach people how to play the guitar, drums, wind instruments and piano. Stevenson says everything will be completely free.

Donations of musical instruments are being accepted. Volunteers interested in helping out can reach out to Stevenson directly through the Do It For Aaron Facebook page.

The launch is set for 5:00pm at Keystorm in Brockville. For more information, visit difafoundation.ca.
