The North Grenville District High School varsity boys baseball team came close to qualifying for provincials. The Knights lost out in finals at the Eastern Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (EOSSAA) championships, held Wednesday in Perth.
Coach Derrick Byrd says the team defeated École secondaire catholique de Casselman in the semi-finals. He says the team faced off against the Holy Cross Crusaders from Kingston in the finals. Byrd says the team battled, but lost 7-0.
The Knights put together a baseball team for the first time last year. This is the second time the team made it to the EOSSAA finals.
Byrd says there’s something about high school athletics and when you get to that provincial level, it’s a real accomplishment. He says he’d like to see the team make it to the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) championships next year.
