Giving Garden celebrates 10th anniversary

It’s been 10 years since seeds were first sown at the Giving Garden. The local initiative provides vegetables and flowers to anyone who needs or wants them.

A community planting event is set for Saturday at 9:00am. The Giving Garden is always looking for more volunteers to keep the beds in order. Volunteers gather weekly, on Weedless Wednesday, to help out. People can drop by anytime between 8:00am and 12:00 noon, during July and August, to lend a hand.

Volunteer Michelle McEvoy says the garden has many community partners, including St. Michael Catholic High School, which takes care of one of the plots annually.

She says the Municipality of North Grenville generously donated the land for the Giving Garden and the Ferguson Forest Centre provides the irrigation and tilling for the plots.

The Giving Garden grows a variety of plants, including tomatoes, cucumbers and sunflowers.

McEvoy says the purpose of the garden is to cultivate seeds of hope in the community.

The Giving Garden is located on County Road 43, across from the Creekside Centre. Excess produce is donated to the Kemptville Salvation Army Food Bank. For more information about the Giving Garden or to volunteer, click here.
