YMCA partners with North Grenville

The Municipality of North Grenville formed a new partnership with the YMCA of Eastern Ontario. The memorandum of understanding was passed by council last night.

CEO Rob Adams was on hand to note the organization’s history locally. He says the former YMCA of Brockville and the YMCA of Kingston merged to create a regional entity. Adams says the federated YMCA of Canada is merging organizations to reach outlying areas and increase the impact on communities.

The YMCA will be running the 2019 Summer Day Camp Program. The camp will be moving from the North Grenville Municipal Centre to the Pte. Blake Williamson Memorial Hall, next to the Kemptville Pool and Riverside Park. The partnership is a one year pilot.

Adams says this could be the start of future partnerships. He says it has to start with one win and this is a very easy win, beneficial to both sides. Adams says the YMCA doesn’t turn people away.

All municipal staff hired on for the camp will be retained by the YMCA, which will take over their employment. The municipality will pay a $7,500 management fee to the YMCA.

Adams says the YMCA will make the camp more accessibility and hopefully grow the program, by offering subsidies to people who can’t afford it.
