Kindling for Kids raises $2,000 for children’s mental health

Kindling for Kids just celebrated its first anniversary. The initiative brought in $2,000 in its first year for Children’s Mental Health of Leeds & Grenville. A total of 1,600 bags of kindling were sold.

Founder Craig McCormick says Kindling for Kids met its goal for the first year despite the burn ban that was in place for July and August.

The kindling sells for $5 a bag and all proceeds go to the organization. The kindling can be found at local businesses, including Pioneer Nursery, RB Heating and Albert’s Meat Shop.

McCormick says he started Kindling for Kids because he wanted to make a difference in the community. He says Children’s Mental Health was an obvious choice for him, as a former police officer.

All money raised through Kindling for Kids goes to the organization’s Kemptville office to support youth locally.
