Service Excellence Award presented to Joe Petschenig

The winner of the inaugural North Grenville Service Excellence Award has been announced. Municipal staffer Joe Petschenig claimed the prize during the council meeting held last night.

CAO Brian Carré says the award is part of the municipality’s goal to operate more efficiently. The Lean Service Delivery Review, released earlier this year, came with 19 recommendations. They will result in 372 hours of work gained, saving the municipality a total of $27,271 annually.

Carré says the award was created to further motivate staff. It will be presented every year to a member of staff that takes the organization to the next level.

Petschenig began his career with the municipality as a part-time facility attendant. He was then hired on as a full-time facility operator.

Carré says Petschenig co-chairs the Multi-Workplace Joint Health & Safety Committee and provides WHMIS training to all staff members.

Petschenig is in charge of operations at the Kemptville Pool and works on eliminating risks at all playgrounds and trails in North Grenville. He is also a volunteer firefighter.

Carré says his many certificates and qualifications, such as heating, air conditioning and steel fabrication, have assisted municipal operations greatly and on many occasions.
