Local students scare hunger by trick-or-treating for canned goods

Students from Centennial ‘67 Public School were out trick-or-treating last night for something other than candy. The kids collected cans for the Spencerville Food Bank, which is part of Food For All in Prescott. A total of 257 food items were collected.

Kids at Centennial have been participating in the Scare Hunger initiative for the past three years. The students visited the food bank two weeks ago to learn about how it works.

Grade six student Jordan Meyers says there are 850,000 people across Canada who don’t have enough food in their cupboards.

The kids are hoping to go to WE Day in Ottawa on November 14. You need to earn your way into the event by doing one good deed locally and one globally.

Grade five student Grace McAvoy says it was cool what they do at the food bank and to see how much food gets donated.

The students plan on doing a walk-a-thon in support of the Ryan’s Well Foundation for their global good deed.
