Green Food Box changes pick-up time, location

The North Dundas Green Food Box has a new pick-up time and location. The program, run by Linking Hands through the House of Lazarus, will now be available at Winchester Community Food Share on the fourth Wednesday of the month.

The program was formerly run out of the Joel Steele Community Centre on the last Friday of the month.

Linking Hands Coordinator Sandy Casselman says the North Dundas Township has been incredibly supportive of the program but it makes sense to move. She says by offering the program through Community Food Share, rather than the arena, it gives people an alternative time to pick up their bag thanks to the food bank’s evening hours.

The Green Food Box program runs in both North and South Dundas. Small and large bags of fresh fruits and vegetables are available at a significant cost savings of $10 and $15. The program is open to anyone within the community.

Casselman says the more people take advantage of the program, the more food will go into each bag thanks to bulk buying power.

The program is volunteer run and supported by community partners. Linking Hands currently dispenses about 100 Green Food Boxes each month.
