OPP Charity Barbecues bring in nearly $9,000

It was a banner year for Grenville County OPP Charity Barbecues. The weekly fundraisers, running from July to August, brought in $8,800 this year. This is the 18th year for the barbecues, which have raised well over $100,000 to date.

Constable Cathy Lindsey says W.O Stinson & Son Ltd., B&H Grocer and Jonsson’s Independent have been great supporters over the past 18 years.

The barbecues are held every Thursday from 11:30am to 1:00pm at the Kemptville OPP detachment throughout the summer. Lindsey says over 100 people attend the barbecues weekly and often donate more than the $5 charged for a burger, hot dog and drink.

Every dollar raised goes to the charity thanks to sponsorship. Eight local charities benefited from the barbecues this year.

The Christmas OPP Charity Barbecue is set for December 6. The event is held in support of the Kemptville Salvation Army Christmas Campaign.
