March Break Travel Tips

MP Gord Brown wants anyone planning a trip over Spring Break to travel as safely as possible.

Brown says anyone leaving the country must remember they are no longer in Canada and must abide by the laws of the country hosting them. He suggests visiting travel.gc.ca for the most up to date travel information, including travel advisories. Children should carry a consent letter when abroad and everyone is encouraged to register with the Registration of Canadians Abroad.

A consent letter is not a legal requirement but according to the Government of Canada it can simplify travel for children and may be requested by immigration authorities. The letter tells customs agents that the child has permission from their parents to be travelling, even if their parents aren’t with them.

Brown adds that in case of emergency assistance while travelling, contact the nearest Canadian embassy or consulate.
