Recipients of grants from the Ontario Trillium Foundation have been announced

The Ontario Trillium Foundation has announced their funding recipients but so far none of this year’s money is coming to the area.

The Trillium Foundation is one of Canada’s largest grant foundations and is an agency of the Government of Ontario. A press release by the foundation shows they have given grants to 214 projects for 2017-2018 but none of the money will be coming back to the Leeds-Grenville area. The last local grant went to Spencerville during the 2016-2017 budget. They were given $34,500 over two months to rejuvenate and upgrade the filtration system at the Johnstown swimming pool. Morrisburg also received $315,000 from the foundation’s 2016-2017 budget so they could upgrade the ice at Morrisburg Arena.

Prescott has not received an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant since the 2015-2016 budget when $30,000 was allocated to build an unloading dock for food delivery trucks at a local warehouse. It is worth noting these grants must be applied for, so the absence of grants does not mean the foundation is ignoring your community. Local politicians may not have applied for grants because they did not believe they needed the money or their application may still be under review.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation has been writing grants for over 30 years and focus on six areas for investment. The foundation fund programs that promote; fostering more active lifestyles, building inclusive and engaged communities, encouraging people to support a healthy and sustainable environment, enriching people’s lives through culture, arts and heritage, enhancing people’s economic well-being and supporting the positive development of children and youth.
