Changes coming to Community Emergency Management by-law

A new by-law is expected to make appointments to the Community Emergency Management team easier in North Grenville.

In the past, Director of Emergency and Protective Services John Okum says the by-law specifically required the appointment of officials as the Community Emergency Management Coordinator and alternate coordinator. Those people would be named within the by-law. Every time one a role was filled by a new staff member, the by-law had to be changed at council.

The proposed changes would use the roles of Director of Emergency and Protective Services/Fire Chief as the designate for the coordinator position and the Deputy Fire Chief as the alternate coordinator. The Fire Prevention Officer would also be added as the designate for the Second Alternate Community Emergency Management Coordinator.

North Grenville Council will vote on the new by-law next Monday.
