Port Day attracts more than 1000 people

Good news for the Port of Johnstown coming out of the 2nd annual Port Day.

The free event took place Saturday with politicians, local business leaders and the general public all encouraged to attend. Speeches were given at the event by MP Gord Brown, MPP Steve Clark, Lieutenant Commander Robert Tucker of the HMCS Goose Bay and many others.

Port Officials said infrastructure investments were attracting new business for the agricultural and steel sectors. Township of Edwardsburgh-Cardinal Mayor Pat Sayeau added that shipping volumes through the port by truck, rail and ship have been trending up ever since the completion of the port’s 35 million dollar infrastructure upgrades.

To go along with the speeches there were guided tours of both the Canadian Coast Guard Vessel Corporal Teather and the HMCS Goose Bay, which officials for the port say attracted more than 1000 guests.
