911 pocket dialing costs in North Grenville drop by $15,000 to $35,000 in 2016

There’s still work to be done to get the word out about accidental 911 pocket dialing.

While the costs in North Grenville have gone down by $15,000 in 2016 over 2015, false 911 calls still cost residents about $35,000.

Grenville County Detachment Commander Inspector June Dobson says that even if police know the call is accidental, they still have to get involved.

North Grenville Police Services Board Vice-Chair Bruce Harrison says to combat the high costs of false 911 calls, the board elected to send out pamphlets to residents to make them aware of the issue.

The North Grenville Police Services Board discussed the issue at its meeting yesterday. Members decided to continue looking at ways to educate the public, so that costs can be reduced and so that officers are freed up to answer real calls when there is an actual emergency.
