Hundreds attend public meeting in Kanata regarding opioids in the area

Parents, and residents of Kanata attended a public meeting regarding the opioid crisis.

The event, which was held Monday, attracted hundreds according to CFRA. There were Ottawa Public Health officials in the room, as well as members of the Youth Service Bureau, Ottawa Police, paramedics, city councillors and officials from the Dave Smith Treatment Centre.

Many people wanted to know how widespread the issue was, how to detect early signs of addiction and how to deal with the issue with teens and children.

There have been two teen deaths in the past few months in Kanata, that police believe were caused by fentanyl.

The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit recently announced that opioids are in the Leeds Grenville region. They says parents should talk to their kids about the dangers of these drugs. You can learn more about the issues by going to www.healthunit.org.
