RVCA explains to North Grenville Council how levy is spent

The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority presented to North Grenville Council where local taxpayers’ money is being spent.

RVCA General Manager Sommer Casgrain-Robertson explained that this year’s levy increase is proposed at three point three percent. That includes any growth from MPAC assessments in the area.

Casgrain-Robertson says they’re aware of the financial pressures municipalities face.

The money is used by the conservation authority on many programs and services including watershed monitoring and reporting, protecting people and property from natural hazards, sustainable development, watershed restoration and enhancement, and conservation lands and education.

Casgrain-Robertson says the RVCA also completed a new strategic plan in the last year and now uses special real-time water quality monitors in a pilot project with Ericsson in North Grenville at two different sites.
