Smiths Falls Police alerting public about high-risk violent sex offender

Smiths Falls Police are alerting the public about a high-risk violent sex offender who has been seen in the community.

SFP says Aaron Gilpin is at an elevated risk to re-offend now that he is no longer on any conditions of release and recently was observed back in Smiths Falls.

They say, although he does present a safety risk to the public, his rights are guaranteed under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms Act.

Gilpin has an extensive criminal record history dating back to the early 2000’s with convictions including a child related sexual assault, assault, weapons offences, disarming a police officer, break and enters and thefts.

Police say he has been in and out of custody for several years with his last conviction ending in 2025.

According to police, Gilpin has been seen in the parks and gazebo area in Smiths Falls and trespassed from a local Tim Hortons.

You’re asked to contact SFPS with any reports regarding Gilpin and not to approach him.
