Website allows residents to follow progress of $50 million construction project

The municipality of North Grenville is in the midst of a major road reconstruction, and Kemptville and area residents can visit a website to see its progress in real time.

The project has a budget of $50 million and includes widening and rehabilitating about 2 km of County Road 43, replacing the Kemptville Creek bridge, constructing roundabouts, adding multi-use pathways, and upgrading related infrastructure.

“Given that it’s a multi-year, major rehabilitation of the busiest county road, it became obvious when we were working with the counties in preparation for the project that we would need to ensure that we were informing the public,” said Mayor Nancy Peckford.

“We embedded a communications contract within the overall budget to ensure that we would have the capacity to provide regular and ongoing updates,” she added.

The website contains a detailed breakdown of the progress on each part of the project, including a camera with a 10-minute delay on it. Peckford said the constant communication before and during the roadwork has been appreciated by residents and business owners alike.

When completed, the road will improve in terms of functionality and safety, including multi-use pathways on both sides and pedestrian crossings in most of the roundabouts.

“I think all of the information, public engagement sessions, business meetings that we’ve held have all contributed to a sense that you can at least find information, relevant, timely information about the project. And that is obviously useful in helping residents and businesses feel that there are no surprises.”
The project is on time and on budget and is expected to be completed in early 2027.

“Obviously there are always little unforeseen things, but for the most part, this was always anticipated to be a three-year project. And that’s where we’re at. The percentages clearly show how we’re doing across various components and the community certainly has been able to see a lot of progress,” explained Peckford.

When completed, the road will improve in terms of functionality and safety, including multi-use pathways on both sides and pedestrian crossings in most of the roundabouts.

The project has a total budget of approximately $50 million and includes widening and rehabilitating about 2 km of County Road 43, replacing the Kemptville Creek bridge, constructing roundabouts, adding multi-use pathways, and upgrading related infrastructure.
