Area weather conditions are wreaking havoc on roadways and has now led to at least a temporary halt in public transit.
North Grenville Mayor Nancy Peckford released a statement on social media saying all morning routes have been put on hold.
“Due to current road conditions, all NGtransit services before (noon) are cancelled, including service between Limebank Station and North Grenville.”
Conditions will be reassessed at 11 a.m., and an update on afternoon service will be provided.
Peckford thanked the municipality’s public works teams in North Grenville and the United Counties who are navigating all kinds of inclement weather, including the recent bout of freezing rain.
“The municipality operates under a single shift for winter road maintenance, starting at 4 a.m. and going as long as it takes. They are a very dedicated and hard-working crew who cover an area of 351.9 square kilometres…with over 7,000 homes. We are appreciative for all that they do during these winter months.”
If residents see trees blocking roads, they are asked to call the municipality at 613-258-9569 ext. 133 or after hours at 613-787-5651.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the area with strong northwesterly and southwesterly wind gusts up 70 km/h. Southwesterly winds are accompanying the passage of a strong cold front and winds will become northwesterly through the afternoon.
The weather services notes that significant ice build-up from freezing rain is expected to lead to more impacts from wind and utility outages are possible.
