Regulations around carbon monoxide alarms are changing in the new year.
On top of already being required near all sleeping areas, fire officials say starting on January first, carbon monoxide alarms will be required on every storey of a home or residential unit.
That includes those without a sleeping area.
Officials say this applies to all homes with a fuel-burning appliance, a fireplace or an attached garage.
It also applies to homes that have heated air produced by a fuel-burning appliance outside of it.
