First 2024 draft budget for North Grenville unvieled, public consultation dates announced

North Grenville council is eyeing a smaller increase to your property tax rate this year compared to 2023.

The first draft budget for 2024 has been presented to municipal council, and if it goes unchanged, tax rates will increase by 3.5 percent.

Last year, the tax rate increased by 3.78 percent, and in 2022, it went up by 0.74 percent.

The total operating budget in this first draft comes out to more than $27.8-million, an increase of nearly $900,000 compared to last year.

The largest spending increases are in the municipal budgets for insurance and “contracted property services,” which it uses to pay for things like utility bills.

Meanwhile, the draft is set to save the municipality money on debt payments and its contributions to things like the North Grenville Public Library.

Two public consultations are scheduled before the next draft budget is brought to council.

The first is happening on January 17th at the Municipal Centre. After that, there will be an online consultation on February 1st.
