North Grenville Pride releases Trans Day of Visibility statement

North Grenville Pride staff members say it’s “crucial” to support the transgender community right now.

The organization, which runs programs to support the local 2SLGBTQIA+ community, has issued a statement for Trans Day of Visibility, an annual awareness initiative that highlights trans people worldwide.

“This is an opportunity to support the transgender community, consider our own prejudices, and raise awareness of the difficulties they confront,” the statement reads.

The organization says Trans Day of Visibility is also an important chance for allies of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community to learn more about the kinds of support queer people need from them.

“In order to effectively advocate for our transgender communities,” the statement explains, “we must examine our own biases and demonstrate empathy and care in our allyship.”

You can view North Grenville Pride’s social media pages to read the full statement, which also has links to some resources you can use to learn more about Trans Day of Visibility and the transgender community.

Staff members also say if you know any trans or non-binary people in your life, you should reach out to them today and let them know how much you value them.
