Kemptville biathlon team heading to provincials

The Kemptville Sea Cadets Biathlon Team medalled at regionals for the first time. The Junior Boys – Wade Claxton and Liam Thibaudeau – took home gold. The Junior Girls – Hailey Panciuk and Hailey Scharf – won silver. Connor Guttin got silver for individual.

Coach Chris Churchill says the team started off at mid-pack and has built itself up to top quarter-pack over the last couple years. He says it’s nice to see the team’s progression.

The other members of the biathlon team include Carter Churchill, Hunter Churchill, Brody Dojcak and Zachary Leaman.

The regionals were held at Connaught in Ottawa. Only gold medal finalists move onto the provincial competition, which is set for this weekend in Sault Ste. Marie. Claxton and Leamon will be competing due to an injury sustained by Thibadeau.

Churchill says the course is very technical and includes lots of steep downhills and turns. He says the team will get out there and do the best it can.
