Ottawa couple charged in shoplifting and resisting arrest incident in Prescott

A 31-year-old Ottawa man is facing charges after shoplifting at O’Reilly’s Independent Grocer in Prescott and resisting arrest.

The OPP says officers were called on Friday afternoon after security tried to arrest a man for shoplifting. There was a struggle between the two, and then the man’s female companion got involved and jumped on top of the security person. Both the man and 30-year-old Ottawa woman fled the area and were caught on Merwin Lane in Augusta Township by the OPP.

The man and woman both face charges of assaulting a peace officer while trying to resist arrest. The man also faces a charge of theft under $5,000.
