It doesn’t look like North Grenville will be using the ranked ballot system for the 2018 Municipal Elections.
Members of council discussed the possibility at Monday night’s Committee of the Whole. Staff explained that the ranked ballot system that was added to the Municipal Elections Act is quite intricate, and would require holding a public meeting, passing a by-law and educating those involved on how the system works. Staff recommended not to proceed with the ranked ballot system option with elections less than two years away.
Members of council also commented that the system could create confusion during the elections and that the idea could be revisited for a future election.
The final vote on the motion not to proceed with a ranked ballot system will come at next week’s Council meeting.
