MP Barrett Elected Vice-Chair of Veterans Affairs Committee

Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MP Michael Barrett is taking on a new role.

Barrett has been elected Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs.

The committee scrutinizes Veterans Affairs Canada and studies issues affecting veterans with its duties including making recommendations on veterans’ rehabilitation and care, and hearing from veterans on transferring military skills to civilian employment.

Barrett tells the Vista Radio Newsroom that there’s work that needs to be done to support our veterans.

“There’s challenges that they have in accessing rehabilitation services and wait times are too long too often.”

Since the return of the House of Commons, Barrett has met with the Minister of Veterans Affairs to raise issues facing veterans and seek areas of cooperation, and with the Parliamentary Secretary to discuss shared priorities for the committee’s agenda.

Barrett also serves as Shadow Minister for Veterans Affairs.
