Friday marks the beginning of the nomination period for the municipal election

We’ll soon find out just who the candidates are in the upcoming municipal election.

Friday, May 1 is the first day that candidates can file a nomination paper for the office of Mayor, Councillor, or School Board Trustee.

The campaign period begins once a candidate files their nomination papers and they can begin accepting contributions and spending money on their campaign.

Candidates can enter the race until 2 p.m. on Aug. 21 with election day scheduled for Oct. 26.

Prescott Mayor Gauri Shankar tells Moose FM that candidates must meet several criteria to be able to run.

“You need to either live in town or rent in town and you can’t have a criminal record.”

Shankar adds that those interested in running can pick up their nomination papers and information at the town hall in their respective municipalities.
